NCMI124M Fire Alarm Technician

Purpose: Fire alarm systems require technicians that are well versed in basic electronics, computer software applications, as well as knowledge of a variety of devices and auxiliary systems that interface to fire panels. 

Course Layout:

Day 1:   Alarm panel basics for power supplies and basic I/O devices.

  1. Set up the alarm panel, connect power
  2. Connect and program keypad
  3. Bringing the panel on line from the keypad
  4. Device input/output types

Day 2:   Computer software for panel programming

  1. Student will apply basics from previous class to set up panel
  2. Loading software on computer
  3. Program panel for basic I/O operations

Day 3:   Central Station setup and communication and power calculations

  1. Central Station communications
  2. Panel programming for communications
  3. Digital radio communicators

Day 4:   Auxiliary control systems

  1. Elevator alternate floor
  2. HVAC shutdown and reset
  3. Duct detectors

Day 5:   Specialty Software

  1. LiteConfig system design application
  2. Battery power configuration

Each session will be allotted 4 hours. Structure will be a 1 hour class, short break followed by a 3 hour lab session

Requirements for Class:  Students will be required to supply the following

  •  Small diagonal cutters (5-6 inch)
  •  Long nose pliers (small point)
  •  Wire strippers (18GA to 24GA)
  •  #2 Phillips screwdrivers
  •   Slotted screwdriver(s)
  •   Small slotted and Phillips screwdrivers (such as Ideal 35-1301)
  •   Multi-meter (must measure DC current, AC/DC voltage, resistance)
