Prepares students for an entry-level position as a Dental Assistant along with elements and principles of ethical decision making that underpin good clinical practice.

Prepares patients for dental treatments. Identifies necessary materials and instruments for various types of dental treatments and how to clean and sterilize them.  Assists the dentist and/or dental hygienist by performing tasks such as handing them the proper equipment, using suction hoses to keep a patient's mouths dry, processing X-rays, properly noting dental charts, and dealing with emergency situations.

Advises patients how to maintain proper dental hygiene.  Learns proper techniques to avoid the transmission of disease in the dental environment and learns the various types of anesthesia used.

Assists the dentist and/or dental hygienist during various types of composite restoration procedures and with the creation of crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and dentures. Identifies and explains different instruments and procedures used in the specialty dental fields of endodontics, periodontics, pediatrics, orthodontics, prosthodontics, and oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Schedules and views appointments, maintains billing records, processes insurance claims, maintains employee time cards, adheres to confidentiality requirements, and creates e-claims using dental software.

Describes how to follow HIPPA requirements. Learns the process of an OSHA site visit.

A Veterinary Assistant helps the Veterinarian or the Veterinarian Technician in their daily tasks. They may feed, water, and examine pets for signs of illness, disease, or injury; clean and disinfect cages and work areas, as well as sterilize laboratory and surgical equipment in laboratories, animal hospitals and clinics.  

The program goal for this online Veterinary Assistant program is to prepare students to work as veterinary assistants under the supervision of veterinarians and veterinary technicians in small or large animal hospitals or clinics. This on-line course includes training and education in animal care, behavior, medical terminology, skeletal and muscular system, anatomy, nutrition system, History & Physical examination, immunology, emergency care, radiology, veterinary practice procedures and general accounting practices. The program also prepares the students to take the national test to become an Approved Veterinary Assistant.  Finally, students are asked to identify an externship site and are expected to complete a minimum of 100 hours of practice. 

Students must be at least 18 years of age and have completed high school or equivalent. Students must be proficient in keyboarding, have a basic understanding of a word processing program (Microsoft Word recommended) Students will be responsible for coordinating their own volunteer experience.
