Carpentry Advanced Skills – Part 2

Carpentry Advanced Skills – Part 2 will introduce students to the carpentry/construction trades with subject matter

This course provides the basic skills that contractors are looking for as they hire for their entry-level to experienced construction positions.  Students will also earn industry recognized credentials. Upon successful completion of Part 2, students can then move on to Part 3 to continue to build their skills in the fall of 2024 (begins in August ’24).

Students will be required to demonstrate experience and a potential test out of basic construction skills such as; OSHA 10 understanding, basic construction math, use of power and hand tools, reading construction drawings, specifications, and layout for commercial or residential plans; basic rigging, materials handling, basic stair layout, building materials, fasteners and adhesives and an understanding of heavy equipment usage to participate in this module.

At the end of Level 2 students will learn:

  • Ceiling Joist & Roof Framing
  • Introduction to Building Envelope Systems
  • Introduction to Masonry
  • Lockout / Tagout
  • Electrical Safety
  • Introduction to HVAC

Participants will complete modules of the nationally recognized NCCER curriculum.

Instructor Information:

Matt Somers is the owner / operator of Somers Construction and a long time instructor in construction skills at Alvirne High School, Hudson, NH and has been in the construction industry over 25 years.  He will be able to share real-life construction experiences and how to manage customers, supervisors, and construction crews effectively as well as teaching the hands-on, specific skills necessary to grow student’s construction careers.

Recording, Mixing, and Mastering Using Modern Digital Technology! Designed for digital audio beginners & intermediates who want to improve their home recording skills or even open their own project studio someday, this 4-week course focuses on using modern technology to make great-sounding recordings. Taught at the NHTunes recording studio in Manchester’s Millyard, students will study audio engineering fundamentals, as well as technology-specific audio applications. To gain 'real-world' experience in audio engineering, students will participate in actual mixing and mastering sessions.

What You'll Learn

  • The basic concepts of digital audio recording.
  • How to use digital audio software sequencers and plug-ins.
  • The principals of, and gain proficiency in mixing and mastering audio.
  • How to facilitate productive recording sessions.

A member of the Audio Engineering Society, Bob has been playing guitar professionally for nearly thirty years, and has been recording bands and soloists for nearly a decade. He currently performs in the acoustic duo Sonic Boomers. He has an MBA from SNHU, and a Guitar Certificate from Berklee College of Music.

NCAT127M NH State Inspection Test Preparation Course

This course is designed to prepare technicians for the New Hampshire Motor Vehicle State Inspection Test. An In depth analysis of the state laws will be thoroughly discussed and reviewed. Technicians will be taught how to properly perform safety inspections as outlined in the Saf-C 3200 Official Inspection Station Rules. Technicians will perform multiple sample hands on Inspections during this course. This course does not replace the mandatory Inspection Overview Course as cited in Saf-C 3205.03 but is designed to be used in addition to increase your knowledge and understanding during testing. Completing this course does not guarantee that you will pass the New Hampshire Motor Vehicle State Inspection Test.

Designed for those who have completed the Audio Engineering course (NCMI57) or for experienced home studio owners, this 4-week course focuses on essential mixing concepts using real world examples. Taught at the NHTunes recording studio in Manchester's Millyard, students will participate in actual mixing sessions to gain experience and knowledge in a variety musical genres, from voice to full band recordings.

Note: Prospective students that have not completed the Audio Engineering course (NCMI57) are expected to understand the concepts and application of compression, EQ, gating, time-based and modulation effects, and the entire signal path including the use of insert vs. send routing.
